Safety First

Microphonic Sensor CableDue to excessive crime in South Africa, most homes are guarded by strong, sturdy walls.  Many people have taken the added protection by having razor wire, electric fencing or palisade fencing added to their perimeter walls.

A strong, sturdy perimeter wall or fence CAN act as a deterrent and be off-putting to would-be intruders.

There are many different walls and fences to choose from, so it is always a good idea to discuss your requirements with a highly trained professional to get the best security for your family and property.

It is not only your residence which is constantly at risk, businesses are having to constantly update their security to cope with innovative criminals. Adding electric fencing correctly, plus cameras and fibre optic cable intrusion detection sensors will greatly add to the security of your home or business, as an intruder climbing over your fencing, or even cutting through it to gain access will be detected and sound the alarm, alerting you and your security company of potential danger.

Fibre optic cables can be easily attached to most types of fencing, and will monitor zones of up to 1,000m.

thorny plant cactiAnother aid is to ensure that a good foundation on which your fencing or walling is erected is strong and deep enough to discourage anyone digging under it to gain access.

Make sure that there are no climbing aids near your perimeter fence, like overhanging tree branches, or dustbins.

Cut back any branches potential intruders can use to access your property, and never plant high shrubs close to your walls or fences, as this offers a place for intruders to hide.

If you do decide you want shrubbery near your walls or fences, make sure you use something with thorns like roses, Bougainvillea, Crown of thorns, Firethorn and many more.   Do your homework on these plants, and see which would offer you added security as well as aesthetic beauty if that is what you would like.

Peace of Mind

palisade securityWith crime escalating daily in South Africa, we do need extra security, unlike our European counterparts in other parts of the world.

Palisade is a very good option as it offers no place to hide if the area on both sides of the fence is kept free of any obstruction like trees or shrubs that would offer a hiding place to would be intruders.

A good idea for palisade is to have a concrete apron or base at the base of the palisade fence to prevent the possibility of someone digging underneath to gain access.

You also have the option to have palisade fencing fitted on top of a concrete or brick wall.
If you do have shrubs, hedges or trees close to the fence to give yourself privacy, always remember that you are also giving privacy to anyone who has entered your property illegally.

If security is your priority, then choosing wisely is a real must.  At Country Wide Walling we have professional consultants who will gladly assist you with making the correct choice for your needs.

Pallisade home protectionAs crime is out of control and the police force not able to prevent crime, the onus is on the property owner to do whatever is necessary to make their property less attractive to would be criminals.

Be Super Secure

palasade with electric fenceThe first line of defence in keeping your family and home safe and secure in the perimeter fence.

Take special care and install CCTV cameras to monitor your driveway and perimeter fence.
Installing an electric fence is a very good option, but care should be taken to ensure it is not easily penetrated.

The fence bracket must be at least an eight-strand square tubing.   Flat and round bar fences are easily breached, whether they be 5,6,7, or 9-string.

Care should be taken that the fence is properly installed with no loose strings, as intruders can easily lift the bottom strands of the fence and slip through.

Make sure you install a strong wall to keep criminals out.

With the load shedding we have here in South Africa, it is a good idea to install batteries to protect against the load shedding.

Always keep the fences on, even when the alarm goes off repeatedly, as criminals can create a short in the fence and wait for you to switch it off.
South African laws require electric fences to be certified with an electric fence system certificate of compliance (EFC)

A good quality Concrete Palisade Fence with an electrCCTV camerasic fence topping is a very good option.  The concrete has no resale value as does steel, so there is no benefit to anyone to try and steal some.   The palisade prevents would-be intruders from having a place to hide and is therefore in itself off-putting to anyone who wants to access your property illegally.

The more defence layers you can add to your property the stronger your defence becomes.

Alarm beams together with cameras will make for good strong layers of protection and will make it more difficult for criminals to gain access to your property.

The safety of your property is your priority, and therefore you should go for the best and strongest security you possibly can.

Country Wide Walling are specialists in Concrete Palisade Fencing, and our professional consultants will gladly assist you, and help you choose the right option for your needs or give you a free quotation, so please feel free to contact us today.

Electrified palisade fences

electrified palisadeAn electrified palisade fence is a steel or aluminium palisade fence used as a defensive barrier for the protection of property, particularly in isolated regions.

Typical construction

Electrified palisade fences are usually made from painted mild steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel or aluminium. Typically the fences are 2.4 metres (7 ft 10 in). All electric fences have energisers which send high voltage electric pulses through the palisade, usually at a frequency of 1 Hertz (one pulse per second).

Uses

The two most common uses of electrified palisade fencing is in protecting isolated property and in the defence of high security facilities. Palisade electric fences are used in most countries, particularly where there is little vegetation to short circuit the fence or where the costs of security personnel is high in relation to automated security equipment.

Isolated property is vulneelectrified fencingrable in that it is difficult or time consuming to send security personnel to respond and so must be self sufficient with an automated security system. The electric pulse is a strong deterrent for criminals, while the palisade fence is mechanically stronger than a typical steel cable electric fence being able to withstand impact from wildlife, small falling trees and wildfires.

South Africa

Due to the high levels of crime in South Africa, it is common for residential houses to have perimeter defences. The City of Johannesburg promotes the use of palisade fencing over opaque, usually brick, walls as criminals cannot hide as easily behind the fence. In the City of Johannesburg manual on safety one can read about best practices and maintenance of palisade fencing, such as not growing vegetation in front of palisades as this allows criminals to make an unseen breach.
